Bluey gay wedding

Whether it is true or not is a completely separate question, but Bluey seemingly made an important move toward silencing the critics by introducing the series’ first same-sex couple.

Namely, the special extended episode “The Sign”, while focusing on Bluey moving house, also has Pretzel, one of the supporting characters from the series, mention that he has two mothers, which confirms that his parents are a lesbian couple, i.e., an LGBTQ+ couple.

And as any fan knows, inviting Muffin to be a part of anything is a recipe for disaster, and this wedding will be no different. (See my posts tagged “Children’s Television” for more, and thanks to GLAAD for all it does to track these shows.) But many of the shows only gave us one-off episodes with LGBTQ characters (or those with LGBTQ parents), not ongoing inclusion, and only The Bravest Knight has starred an LGBTQ-parented family.

“I love the idea of caricaturing an Australian wedding from the kid’s point of view,” he said.

Another update sending fans into a frenzy is the addition of four new voice talents in “The Sign,” most notably Australian star Joel Edgerton, though further details about his role remain unknown.

Ultimately (slight spoiler) Frisky and Rad make up, the wedding is back on, and we see the ceremony and reception.

The episode also deals thoughtfully with Bluey’s feelings around her family’s pending move, with a lovely throughline about luck, though I’ll say no more about that for fear of spoilers. Additionally, Pretzel is only an occasional character, having appeared in just 13 of the series’ more than 150 episodes, according to the Bluey Wiki.

The beloved Australian cartoon introduced the queer couple in a 'blink and you'll miss it' moment

In the season three final titled 'The Sign' some viewers noticed a subtle hint that Bluey's friend Pretzel (pictured centre) has two mums. I love that no big deal was made of it, and clearly the class isn’t surprised by the fact that Pretzel has two mums.

“Ghostbasket” airs on Sunday, April 7. Enter Uncle Rad and Bluey’s godmother Frisky. “The Sign,” featuring the wedding, airs the following Sunday, April 14.

Cavallari, who starred on MTV’s Laguna Beach and The Hills, opened up about how her three children, Camden, Jaxon and Saylor, discovered the shows. That’s good, because I wouldn’t like Bluey to fall back into the pattern of many older kids’ shows, which introduced LGBTQ representation right before cancellation.

Bluey now joins a growing number of shows for younger (preschool) children that have included representation of LGBTQ people and families.

'This makes me so happy,' one commented, another said: 'Finally! (Bluey isn’t wearing any flowers, but she is a flower girl.)

From the trailer, we can also see that Frisky gets cold feet and bolts, with Bluey’s mom, Chili in hot pursuit with Bluey, Bingo and the cousins — until they get pulled over by the police!

We are no longer accepting comments on this article.

Beloved animated children’s show Bluey has just dropped an episode revealing that one of the minor recurring characters has two moms. Another scene shows the girls locating Frisky by using a telescope. Instead, as the show’s official website notes, the episode focuses on “the wedding of the year” between Bluey’s Uncle Rad and her godmother Frisky.

I still stand by that. Nevertheless, the producers seem to be playing it safe, tossing out an in-passing mention that LGBTQ people exist but never showing them, and doing so in an episode that centers a straight wedding, a hefty counterbalance to the speck of queerness. “My 7yr old passed out from excitement,” posted one mom, and another replied, “I (29) passed out with excitement.”

Since adult things happen off camera on Bluey, fans became desperate for further information.

The series premiered on October 1, 2018, and follows the everyday adventures of Bluey Heeler, an anthropomorphic dog, his family, and his friends. A partial list includes Peppa Pig(Netflix), Rubble & Crew, (Nickelodeon), Cocomelon Lane (Netflix), Ada Twist, Scientist (Netflix); Princess Power (Netflix), Ridley Jones (Netflix), We Baby Bears (Cartoon Network), Firebuds (Disney Junior), Dino Ranch (Disney Junior), Eureka! (Disney Junior), Strawberry Shortcake: Berry in the Big City (Netflix), Pinecone & Pony (Apple TV+), Chip and Potato (Netflix), Pete the Cat (Amazon), Bug Diaries (Amazon), the reboot of Clifford the Big Red Dog (Amazon and PBS Kids), Rugrats (Paramount), T.O.T.S. (Disney Junior), Doc McStuffins (Disney Channel), Arthur (PBS), The Bravest Knight (Hulu), Muppet Babies (Disney Junior), Madagascar: A Little Wild (Hulu/Peacock), the venerable Sesame Street, and Postcards from Buster (PBS, way back in 2005).

Would a Pride-themed episode, with Bluey joining Pretzel and his moms at the city’s Pride Fair Day, be too much to ask?

Why Cartoon Bluey’s Upcoming ‘The Sign’ Episode Is the Biggest TV Wedding of the Year

The most anticipated wedding of 2024 is happening on Bluey, a cartoon for children — and dogs.

Bluey’s growing legion of adult fans is over the moon that two of the series’ regular characters will tie the knot in an upcoming half-hour episode of the animated Australian show, now streaming on Disney+.

(Bluey’s animators use colors that dogs can see.)

Up until now, most episodes run for a kid-friendly eight minutes, but on April 14, a 28-minute episode titled “The Sign” will premiere globally. Whether he will appear again soon is an open question, as is whether we will ever see his moms.

On the other hand, this episode was a larger-than-usual, season-ending extravaganza with screenings around the world.

And while I hope these episodes include a wide variety of plotlines, not all of which should be “about” LGBTQ identities, I will note that the show is set in Brisbane, which has a long-running Pride Festival.
