The Scorpio is the oldest gay bar in Charlotte and a perfect place for those who like to drink and dance the night away. Southern Pride is a recurring column that explores and celebrates LGBTQ+ culture in Southern cities.
Visitors to Charlotte might start their night here before amping it up next door at Argon.
It combines a bar, music venue, and art gallery all in one. It's a great spot to socialize, enjoy a few drinks, and catch up with friends. Pride events include Black Gay Pride Week, which is held in July every year and is celebrating its 20th year this year. The city's annual Charlotte Pride event1 stands as a testament to its commitment to celebrating diversity and inclusion.
This Southern city is actively working to make sure its queer community has increasing visibility in the business sector and through local events and venues that support gay culture.

The Charlotte LGBT+ Chamber of Commerce
