South Beach is home to many of the best gay bars, clubs, and restaurants, making it the perfect destination for socializing and enjoying the local culture.

Another popular area is Wynwood, a trendy arts district filled with galleries, street art, and eclectic shops. The tour was great fun, taking me along the Miami coastline, past the various islands in the Bay of Biscayne, including Star Island – which is home to various celebrity mansions, including J Lo and David Beckham’s!

After the cruise is over, I highly recommend having a look around Bayside Marketplace, a two-story open air shopping centre.

Every guest room also comes with a private balcony, with incredible ocean views.

And for travellers visiting Miami pre/post-cruising, the hotel is a short taxi ride to the cruise terminals, making it the perfect choice all-round.

Gay Bars in Miami

Miami Beach, and in fact Greater Miami, has long had a reputation for being a hotspot for LGBTQ+ travellers in search of gay nightlife.

Whether I am looking for a boozy drag brunch or drag show, quiet social drinks with friends, or looking to dance the night away in a nightclub, there is something to suit everyone in Miami.

One thing to note however, which is unfortunate to say, is that like most big cities, some of the gay bars in Miami have a reputation for pickpocketing.

The hotel frequently hosts LGBTQ+ events, making it a favorite among the community. It is a fun and funky property that offers 107 stylishly designed guest rooms and suites, each with its own unique personality and charm.

Lounge by the rooftop pool with a cocktail in hand at Highbar. This vibrant hotel offers spacious rooms with stunning ocean views, an impressive pool area, and a renowned spa.

And being on Ocean Drive, the hotel is also within walking distance to the shopping and dining options that Ocean Drive is well-known for.

Kimpton EPIC, Downtown Miami

My most recent visit to Miami came before my annual Atlantis cruise, which is always a crazy and very exhausting week.

Whilst I loved the time I spent in South Beach, I wanted a couple of days immediately prior to sailing to switch off and relax – and Kimpton EPIC was the perfect choice to do that!

I have always loved the Kimpton hotel chain because of how supportive they are of the LGBTQ+ community; both the Kimpton brand and their parent group IHG Hotels have done some incredible work, such as being proud supporters of Trevor Project – so stepping foot in one of their properties, I immediately felt welcomed as a gay traveller!

Kimpton EPIC is a gorgeous 4-star property located in downtown Miami, away from South Beach and all its temptations, which I needed!

The hotel is a luxurious property, with two rooftop pools, two onsite restaurants, a fully equipped gym, and a poolside bar serving delicious craft cocktails.

From the warm and friendly welcome at check-in to the thoughtful amenities and personalized service, every aspect of your stay is designed with your comfort and enjoyment in mind.

Whether you’re there to relax by the pool, explore the vibrant nightlife of South Beach, or simply enjoy the company of your loved ones, Blanc Kara is the perfect destination for your next LGBTQ+ friendly getaway.

Soho Beach House

Soho Beach House is an exclusive private members’ club that offers a unique experience for LGBTQ+ travelers. Known for its vibrant nightlife, stunning beaches, and welcoming atmosphere, the city offers an array of gay-friendly accommodations, making it easy for travelers to find the perfect place to stay.

And when it comes to things to do for gay travellers, I could of course focus on ‘the usual’ – gay nightlife, the gay scene and relaxing at the gay beach…

But during my most recent visit to Miami, I had more time and wanted to delve a little deeper and experience more of what this destination had to offer – and I was kept busy!

Here are my personal recommendations for what gay travellers should do whilst in Miami.

Treetop Trekking Miami at Jungle Island

This is something that was right up my street!

Treetop Trekking Miami is located at Jungle Island eco-adventure park, on Watson Island (a man-made island connected to both mainland and South Beach by causeway) and is actually South Florida’s only aerial adventure park.

Strapped into a climbing harness (bit different to the harness I would wear the following week on Atlantis!), I explored the jungle canopy as I climbed, swung, navigated suspension bridges and zip-lined through the treetops.

There are a number of different treks you can do, to suit either age or experience, but naturally I had to go for the ‘’Thrill-Seeker’’ Trek – the most challenging option!

With their inclusive environments, prime locations, and excellent amenities, these hotels ensure that LGBTQ+ travelers feel at home and enjoy a memorable stay in one of the world’s most famous destinations. The hotel also features a world-class fitness center, a full-service spa, and several dining options nearby that serve delicious cuisine from around the world.

With its stunning design, exceptional service, and prime location, W Miami is the perfect destination for travelers who want to experience the best that Miami has to offer.

Stay At The Best Gay Resorts & Hotels In Miami

Miami, Florida has some of the best gay resorts and hotels in the world.

It is here where the two popular gay hotels are located, as well as the majority of the gay nightlife.

It’s not uncommon at all to see fellow LGBTQ+ travellers out and about holding hands with their significant others, which is always great to see.

Things to do in Miami for Gay Travellers

There are countless things to do in Miami, both beach based in and around the iconic South Beach as well as in downtown Miami.

However, you might feel it is worth the journey because Haulover is a ‘nude’ beach. Whether you’re looking to relax in style, party the night away, or experience the art and culture of the city, these hotels ensure that LGBTQ+ travelers feel right at home.

What Makes Miami Beach Gay Hotels Special?

Miami Beach gay hotels are celebrated for more than just their convenient location and comfortable accommodations.

We hope that nobody experiences discrimination or homophobia while visiting Florida, but we make no guarantees. They offer something truly unique for LGBTQ+ travelers. Dance the night away with its prime location in the heart of South Beach.

At Dream South Beach Miami, you’re free to be yourself and celebrate who you are.

Its beach club, spa services, and nearby attractions make it an excellent choice for travelers seeking both luxury and excitement.

Exploring Miami Beach’s Gay-Friendly Neighborhoods

In addition to offering great accommodations, Miami Beach also boasts several gay-friendly neighborhoods and attractions. With its playful and contemporary design, this boutique hotel offers a personalized experience that makes guests feel like part of the family.

Hotel Gaythering is known for its laid-back, yet vibrant, atmosphere where you can mingle with fellow travelers, enjoy poolside cocktails, or unwind in its stylish lounge area.

The hotel regularly hosts events like drag shows, happy hours, and LGBTQ+ themed parties, making it a perfect choice for social travelers. These properties understand the importance of creating an inclusive environment where guests can feel safe, celebrated, and respected.

Gay Miami Travel Guide: I quickly realised on my first visit that Miami was welcoming to LGBTQ+ travellers – more on that below – but I was very happy to discover just how gay Miami was.

I have been travelling to Miami every year for the past 6 years – I always find myself there when I take my annual Atlantis gay cruise, and I usually only spend a couple of days either side of the cruise – so my previous gay Miami experience was always a little limited.

However, this year I flew out a full week prior to the cruise, and so naturally I decided to really explore the full extent of ‘gay Miami.’

I loved checking out the different gay hotels in Miami, trying new gay bars, and even seeing what type of activities were on offer for gay travellers to Miami.

Here is everything you might need to know in my Gay Miami travel guide.

Is Miami Gay Friendly?

Short answer – yes!

Miami has one of the largest and most prominent LGBTQ+ communities in the United States, and attracting over 1 million LGBTQ+ visitors each year has become known as somewhat of a gay mecca.

The Miami area has been gay-friendly for years; in fact, it is one of the few places in the world where the local LGBTQ+ community has their own chamber of commerce, the Miami-Dade Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (MDGLCC).

Whilst Greater Miami and Miami Beach are welcoming as a whole, the South Beach district in Miami Beach is the heart of the LGBTQ+ scene.
