She can’t discuss this with a therapist, this isn’t an unsupportive parent, this is a supernatural ability that would see her locked up if she tried to talk about it. Players have noted that Finn fits the “pansexual” label under the LGBTQ+ umbrella.

Jacob Hackerman

Jacob is not a potential romantic interest for Sean, but the two meet because Jacob works on the same farm as Finn and Cassidy.

Stanley and Arthur care deeply for each other, which Daniel witnesses and tells Sean that he hopes somebody will care about him that same way when he gets old. Perhaps family members are too overly judgmental, perhaps there’s an insistence on not showing emotion. It’s not. Those who are waiting to learn more about Alex and her potential relationship with Steph only have to wait about a month for Life is Strange: True Colors.

She literally collects conversation topics. Gamers who may see themselves in Max, figuring out who they are and where they belong in the world. Gone is the initial sadness, the desperate need to reconcile. And then when Chloe leaves, Max realizes the consequences of her actions without her partner there to use as an outlet.

Due to Max changing the timeline repeatedly to make decisions and attempt, perhaps in a misguided fashion, to make the lives of her friends better, a massive storm comes to Arcadia Bay.

This storm can end one of two ways, but in the timeline where Chloe lives, the town is destroyed in that event. She maintains intense eye contact in conversation, ribs him, even sends him texts full of sexual innuendos.

I’ve never seen Max as a particularly strong representative of the bi community, but when you take her whole dating history into consideration, man, she really does feel familiar.

How “Life Is Strange” became a staple in the queer gaming community

Over the years, the Life Is Strange (LIS) franchise has built up its world with several at-times, soul-crushing, heartwarming storylines centred around supernatural plots.

Her best friend here, Safi, is essentially a mirror of Max from the first game, down to the fact that she too has powers. He grew up in a small town, and it’s later discovered that his community made him undergo conversion therapy after finding out he was gay. There’s some insight into her relationship with Chloe here, one that paints a picture of a codependent and unhealthy pairing, and there’s the ramblings of a depressed woman.

That’s part of the complexity of the series and why, though it’s well known to be deeply cringey, it still speaks to something honest inside me.

Even though Chloe suuuucked, Max still loved her, platonically and, depending on your choices, maybe romantically. Steph’s confirmed LGBTQ+ identity is lesbian, especially evidenced by Chloe’s journal that states Steph is “into girls” and doesn’t care what others think about it.

Players who want to revisit any of these LGBTQ+ identifying characters can load up their favorite Life is Strange game at any time.

They’ve made their place in the queer community and continue to help questioning LGBTQ+ individuals figure out who they are. And no tale is gayer than that of the very first Life Is Strange.

Plot

For those unaware of the franchise, the original LIS follows awkward-college-girl Max Caulfield as she returns to her hometown, the quiet seaside town of Arcadia Bay, to study photography.

Expectations and the weight thereof are always omnipresent in a fandom as large as the Life is Strange community, and with that comes toxicity.

Fans of the franchise weren’t at all happy with the fact that Chloe, the secondary protagonist of the original Life is Strange game, wouldn’t be in this title, regardless of the player’s choices that were made throughout the course of the original game.

After all, the games are sold under the pretense that choices matter, so why would that particular choice not factor in?

Out of the blue, Max realises she can time travel after saving her (at the time unknown to Max) childhood best friend’s (Chloe) life in the college bathrooms by rewinding time.
